Bond University provides a number of Learning and Development opportunities for staff to continually enhance their skills. From self-paced online training courses through to leadership development or tertiary qualifications, Bond University is committed to providing staff with opportunities to grow and develop their skills.

Training programs offered include staff induction, compliance training (workplace health and safety, code of conduct, privacy and relevant legislation and bullying and harassment), as well as training on communication skills, performance management and leadership skills, IT skills, academic skills, cultural diversity, time management and assertiveness.

Staff are encouraged to continuously improve the capabilities required for their current appointment, and to also consider development opportunities to assist in preparing them for alternative roles within the University

Academic promotion at Bond

Academic Promotion is the process by which a Bond University academic (Assistant Professor Level B and above) applies to be promoted to the next level.

At Bond University, there are four (4) streams that form the basis of an application for promotion:

  • Research Intensive Stream
  • Research Emphasis and Teaching Stream
  • Teaching Emphasis and Research Stream
  • Teaching Scholarship Stream

Applicants are required to build a strong case for promotion in the relevant stream of application by providing evidence of achievement. The Promotions Policy and Criteria document outline requirements in detail.

There are four (4) headings the criteria fall under:

  • Relevant Educational Qualifications
  • Research Performance
  • Learning and Teaching Performance, and;
  • Contribution to the Bond University Community


There is one set of academic promotion round each year. Applications are due around mid-February, and if successful, the effective date for the promotion is July 1st of that year. Applicants are invited to attend a face-to-face interview with the Promotions Committee.

In recognition of increasing Indigenous participation, Bond University officially opened the Nyombil Centre in September, 2012. The name ‘Nyombil’ promotes unity and was given to Bond University by an Aboriginal Elder.

Culturally speaking, the Centre promotes engagement by assisting students and the University to connect with the local Indigenous community. Our Elder in Residence is Aunty Joyce Summers.

Bond University is home to Australia’s largest private collection of Indigenous Art on public display, thanks to the generosity of Dr Patrick Corrigan (AM).

Dr Corrigan almost single-handedly created the Bond University Indigenous and non-Indigenous Art Collection through personal donations, locations and procurement. The University is extremely grateful for his generosity.

As an avid collector, Dr Corrigan’s motivation for these works is that they be shared. Whilst many collectors prefer to house artworks in their homes, or even a storage facility, Dr Corrigan adamant that his selected pieces provide enjoyment for a wide audience.

Therefore, the Corrigan Walk was created to provide a tour of the Indigenous Art held in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine. The Corrigan Walk tour is guided by a Bond staff member or student, and takes approximately one hour. During the tour, guests learn the history of Indigenous Art, interesting facts about the artists, as well as the stories behind the paintings.

Public tours are held once a semester; with staff, students and the general public most welcome.
