One of Australia's leading architects, Peter Stutchbury, will discuss the importance of the work of the late Paul Pholeros, as well as his own work, at the first Abedian School of Architecture Lecture Series for 2017 on Thursday, January 19, at Bond University.
The free seminar is open to the public and will launch this year's lecture series, which will include presentations from world-leading architects, each exploring and expanding the definition of architectural practice and new design trends.
Professor Stutchbury, who founded Peter Stutchbury Architecture in Sydney in 1981, is recognised nationally and internationally for his innovative approach to sustainability and design across a range of educational, industrial and residential projects.
He has received an unprecedented number of Australian Institute of Architects Awards and took out the highest honour - the Gold Medal for Architecture - in 2015, with the jury crediting his ability to design 'buildings that are environmentally sustainable, culturally specific and locally embedded'.
He is a Professor of Architecture at the University of Newcastle, a founding director of the Architecture Foundation Australia and has taught as a distinguished Master at the Foundation's Glenn Murcutt International Architecture Master Class since its inception in 2001.
Professor Stutchbury credits his unique architectural approach to his experience growing up in the rural town of Cobar, in western New South Wales, and has gained further inspiration from his travels across regional Australia, Africa, Asia and Papua New Guinea - the location of his first project, a church in Port Moresby.
As Professor of Architecture Adrian Carter, who has followed with interest the development of his friend Peter Stutchbury’s work since the late 1980’s says, “he is an outstandingly lyrical and innovative exponent of a uniquely Australian architecture focused on sustainability and sense of place, who very deservedly is gaining ever increasing international recognition”.
Bond University Assistant Professor of Architecture, Chris Knapp, said the first architecture lecture of the year was an opportunity for those interested in sustainable living to learn more about green design.

Professor Stutchbury will also spend three days with Bond University students as part of an intensive design project to expand their architectural experience.
