Bond University opens new Alumni Centre

Bond University has unveiled a new Alumni Centre for graduates in its landmark 30th year.

The centre features an alumni lounge, 14-seat boardroom, four smaller meeting rooms and a merchandise store.

It was opened on Friday, February 7 by Vice Chancellor and President, Professor Tim Brailsford, who praised the role of Bond alumni in the ongoing development of the university.

“Alumni open doors, they can be influencers, they assist with industry partnerships, and they certainly assist in finding our graduates jobs,” Professor Brailsford said.

“Now they have a place on campus where they can drop in, wind down, make a few phone calls or book one the rooms and hold a business meeting.

“By bringing them back to campus, even for just a few hours, it’s an opportunity to touch base. We want them to feel like they are visiting home.”

Chair of the Bond University Alumni Advisory Board, Derek Cronin, represented past students at the unveiling. Mr Cronin was one of the university’s first students and part of the original “892” cohort.

“This space really keeps that momentum (of the 30th anniversary) going and encourages alumni to come back to campus,” he said.

“When we are busy and in Sydney or London or New York, we might only be back on the Gold Coast for a short time.

“To have a space on campus to get some work done, it's going to be a great benefit to the alumni.”

Vice President of Engagement, Catherine Marks, said the Alumni Centre was another ‘gift’ to alumni in the university’s 30th year.

“It follows the gift of the unique sculpture ‘Limitless’, situated under the iconic Arch and engraved with the names of over 26,000 alumni who studied at the university since it opened on May 15, 1989,” Ms Marks said.

“Like many of the great education institutions in the world, Bond now has a dedicated place for alumni to meet and do business with the university and with fellow Bondies.”

Alumni can book the meeting rooms by calling 07 5595 1417.
