Australian journalist great celebrates International Women's Day at Bond

Award-winning journalist Kay McGrath made her first public appearance since stepping away from the Channel 7 news desk, addressing an International Women's Day Cocktail Reception at Bond University.

Ms McGrath spoke to the crowd at the event hosted by the Bond University Women's Network (BUWN), discussing her 40 years in journalism, much of it as a prime-time presenter, and why she advocates for victims of domestic violence.

She explained that her strong passion for social justice had driven her to speak out against family domestic violence, and to become a patron of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, and co-founder of Protect all Children Today.

National Co-Chair of Women in Media, Catherine Webber, emceed the cocktail reception which was attended by BUWN Chair, Professor Keith Dunstan, Bond academics, journalism students, and members of the Gold Coast community.

To close the event, Kay McGrath said: “Don’t tune out, don’t look away. If we want to change the conundrum of domestic violence, we have to think about it.”
