The Master of Medical Laboratory Science is a specialist degree designed to prepare you for a career in medical laboratories such as hospitals and private diagnostic laboratories.  You will gain advanced knowledge and laboratory expertise in the various disciplines of pathology such as histopathology, cytology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, blood bank/ transfusion, haematology and molecular pathology. The Master of Medical Laboratory Science is a specialist degree designed to prepare you for a career in medical laboratories such as hospitals and private diagnostic laboratories.  You will gain advanced knowledge and laboratory expertise in the various disciplines of pathology such as histopathology, cytology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, blood bank/ transfusion, haematology and molecular pathology.

The Master of Medical Laboratory Science is a specialist degree which is designed to enable you to seek employment in a range of settings that may include:

  • Private diagnostic laboratories
  • Public and private hospital laboratories
  • Research laboratories

You may be eligible to progress to further postgraduate research, leading to potential career options in research organisations and academia.

Academic entry requirements

Successful completion of a Bachelor of Biomedical Science or equivalent level bachelor’s level program with studies in pathophysiology, cell biology, immunology and biochemistry.

English language proficiency requirements

Credit for prior study

Subject credits may be awarded for previous studies. To apply for credits, you will need to submit academic transcripts including detailed subject outlines/course descriptions for each relevant subject and/or certified copies of testamurs to the Office of Future Students. Please refer to how to apply for credit for more information
