BVMT13-155: Policy, Case Management and Independent Living

Description

Students will be introduced to the concept of individual case management within broader administrative policies. Questions of responsibility, access to services, decision-making, support requirements, and the possibility of moving towards independent living will be explored with case examples drawn from the field. A major emphasis will be placed upon the legal and ethical issues involved in 'care', and how these need to be balanced with social and funding concerns of the broader community.

Learning outcomes

  1. Student will name and describe the major Queensland Education and Disability Services policies pertaining to individuals with special needs.
  2. Students will apply a basic case management model for assessing client competencies and needs for service provision to overcome identified difficulties in day-to-day functioning.
  3. Students will name and describe the ethical obligations of case workers in dealing with client needs within the wider family context.

Assumed knowledge is the minimum level of knowledge of a subject area that students are assumed to have acquired through previous study. It is the responsibility of students to ensure they meet the assumed knowledge expectations of the subject.
