Become a Climate Law Specialist
We need a new generation of energised, empowered, and legally educated advocates to address and ultimately reverse the wide-reaching effects of climate change.
The Bachelor of Laws with a specialisation, major or double major in Climate Law is the first program of its type in the world.
Focusing on the law, science, social and commercial implications of climate change, it is designed for undergraduate students who wish to specialise in climate law and contribute to addressing climate change by leading regulatory reform.
World-first climate law qualification
Bachelor of Laws students can specialise in climate law by selecting either a specialisation (4 electives), a major (6 electives), or a double major (12 electives).
- Gain a qualification that allows you to seek admission as a lawyer, while gaining a specialised qualification in climate law.
- Examine the key principles of climate law and the legal and social implications of climate change.
- Start in January, May or September.
Future outcomes
The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) satisfies the academic requirements for admission as a legal practitioner. LLB graduates are able to pursue a wide variety of legal and professional careers in the public or private sector. Graduates with a specialisation Climate Law will be well-placed to practice and contribute to addressing climate change by leading regulatory reform.

Bachelor of Laws students can choose to complete a specialisation, major, or double major in Climate Law, starting in Bond's January, May or September intakes.

Double Major
Students wishing to complete a double major in Climate Law must choose twelve (12) subjects from the list below.

Please note that if you choose to complete the double major, all of the general and law electives in your program must be climate subjects, commencing in the first semester of your degree.
The double major is not available to students enrolled in a combined degree program.

The double major
If you complete the double major full-time, you will be immersed in the studies of climate change and climate law through a wide range of law and non-law subjects.

Year 1
In your first year, you will master the foundations of the legal system as well as private law, public, criminal law and contract law, and complete Bond's unique core subjects. These foundation studies will be complemented by one to two specialised climate subjects per semester, including studies on climate change and the future world, the context of climate law and law reform and critical consciousness.

Year 2
Going into your second year of study, you'll dive deeper into specialised facets of the law, including contract law, constitutional law, property law and corporate law. You may study one to two climate subjects per semester, gaining an understanding in areas such as climate change and natural resources law, international environmental law and learning how to negotiate climate disputes.

Final two semesters
Your final two semesters of study will focus on advanced legal studies including administrative law, civil dispute resolution and evidence, as well as continuing your specialisation in climate law as you prepare for graduation. Climate specific subjects may cover topics including climate law and human rights, climate liability, and international emissions trading law.
