From experience, I know that the final years of high school are pretty full on - and full of decisions. When I wasn’t at school, I was either studying, eating, or trying to get a wink of sleep while contemplating what I wanted my future to look like. To help give you more confidence about which university is right for you, I recommend attending as many open days as possible, so that you can find the right fit.
Bond's On Campus Open Day is coming up on Saturday, 29 July, where you can meet current students and academics, explore our campus and your interests, all while getting a feel for what university life is really like.
While there is a lot to do and take in on Open Day, as someone who has been in your shoes before, I have identified four things you should add to your to-do list to make the most out of your time.
1. Attend a student-led campus tour
The best part about Open Day is that you get to be on campus and picture your life as a future Bondy! A fantastic way to experience Open Day is by taking a campus tour. These tours are led by current Bond students which means that they can provide you with all the insights on how to best use the facilities.
2. Visit a faculty
At universities, programs are delivered by a specific faculty – for example, my degree, a Bachelor of Communication (CRICOS 063062J) is part of the Faculty of Society & Design. Delve deeper into what your future life as a Bondy could look like by visiting a faculty (or two!) of interest. On a faculty tour, you will be wowed by the facilities and resources you can take advantage of during your studies. During this experience, you’ll also be able to meet academics and current students who are ready to answer all your burning questions. I met so many of my future lecturers during a faculty tour which made transitioning from high school to university much less overwhelming.
3. Meet industry, alumni and staff in the Connect Lounge
Hear about the Bond difference from industry, alumni and staff in the Connect Lounge. Networking with industry professionals at the start of your university experience will provide you with an abundance of opportunities from mentoring to employment. Recently, one of my lecturers helped me connect with a Bond graduate on LinkedIn so that I could ask them about their experience working for a company I hope to one day work for.
4. Enjoy food for thought in the main quadrangle
All of that exploring is sure to work up an appetite. Grab a bite to eat from the Hail Mary or Notorious E.A.T. food trucks and listen to live music before tuning your attention to one of the many short, thought-provoking talks in the main quadrangle. The Papyrus café located in the Main Library, and Pulse café located in the Health Sciences & Medicine building will also be open which have lovely sandwiches, wraps, and sweet treats.
5. Make friends with current and prospective Bondies
Meeting other Bondies at Open Day will allow you to have an easier transition from high school to uni. Speaking from experience, having contacts and a support system is really important. Who knows? You may meet your future gym buddies, study friends, or classmates at Open Day.
