5 things you’ll get out of studying at the Bond Institute of Health & Sport

When preparing to start a career in health, it’s not just about what you’re studying – it’s about how and where you are learning the skills that will shape the health, and the lives, of others.

The Bond Institute of Health & Sport is a world-class, purpose-built training and testing facility, and is the training ground for elite athletes and future health professionals alike. Just 4km from Bond’s main campus, students share the space with industry professionals, elite athletes and a team of expert staff dedicated to ensuring their success.

The Institute is home base for Bond students studying exercise and sports science, exercise and sports performance, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and is also used extensively by students studying nutrition and dietetic practice. If you’re looking for the perfect arena to hone your skills, here are just five of the benefits you’ll get out of your time here.

1. Develop your skills in a purpose-built teaching and training facility

The Institute attracts professional athletes and sport organisations from all over the world, so as you’d expect, the facilities are among Australia’s best. Whether you’re conducting research using VO2max testing or practising your ‘hands-on’ skills working with patients, you will be learning using the latest technologies and industry-quality facilities.

The specialised teaching spaces and smaller clinical skills rooms are all equipped with modern technology and features that simulate a real-life clinical environment, allowing you to gain relevant, hands-on experience and knowledge from your very first week.

The Institute is also home to health and sports science laboratories, used for research and athlete testing, and by exercise, health and sports science and physiotherapy students. It also features the High Performance Training Centre, swimming pool and temperature contrast pools as well as an altitude room.

2. Learn in an active high-performance centre

Bond’s High Performance Training Centre is world class and is the only centre in Australia to have been awarded a 2020 – 2023 Strength of America Award for its strength and conditioning standards.

National and international sporting teams frequently use the training facility, so students based at the Institute are regularly witnessing some of the world’s best athletes and coaches in action. They also frequently have the opportunity to use the space for work experience and practical learning opportunities.

3. Build connections with practising industry professionals

In addition to the elite athletes and Bond staff and students that regularly utilise the Institute’s facilities, a number of commercial practices operate out of the Institute, providing the local community with valuable health services as well as internship, work experience and networking opportunities for our students.

Bond’s teaching staff are highly experienced in their fields. With deliberately small class sizes and cohorts, your teachers will become your mentors and can help you to connect with other industry professionals and opportunities in your area of interest.

Every Bond health and sport science program features a dedicated placement coordinator, your go-to contact who personally assists you with finding placements.

4. Start your career in Robina’s health and sport precinct

Robina has become a key health and sporting destination – and the Bond Institute of Health and Sport is at its heart. The Institute is nestled between the Robina Hospital and CBus Super Stadium, with many other health and sporting organisations and businesses operating close by. This means that even while you’re studying, you will be immersed in a dynamic industry hub.

5. Develop a network for life

Ask any Bondy – the student community is very tightknit, especially at the Institute. You will be learning in a small cohort of students, allowing you to build strong professional and personal connections from your first day. And with state-of-the-art facilities all on site, the Institute will become your home away from home, where you will have the opportunity to create lifelong networks as you develop and practise your skills.
