In our first 30 years, almost 30,000 alumni have graduated from Bond University. To celebrate our 30th anniversary, we’re showcasing some of the past students who have paved the way for the next generation of Bondies.
Meet Bachelor of Commerce (CRICOS 063059D) and MBA (CRICOS 108627A) alumna, Bahar Etminan.
What is your current role?
I've had my own business since 2004. I started a premium skincare, fragrance and cosmetic distribution company when I was 28. I'm now the founder and editor of women's lifestyle site RESCU.com.au and I also launched an online education business last year -- RESCU Me Academy.
Where are you based?
Sydney.
Why did you choose to attend Bond?
I graduated high school in the US and I really wanted to attend an international-style university with a college atmosphere. Bond was new and it was extremely progressive and had that pioneering energy. My father suggested it would be a good compromise to attend Bond instead of studying at a US university. I visited the campus and instantly fell in love with it. It just felt like home. I was also very ambitious and in such a rush to grow up and work. The three semesters a year program really appealed to me. I ended up completing my BCom and MBA at Bond … FAST.
What are your recollections of your time here?
Working hard and playing harder. It was a completely joyful, enriching, transformative experience. Living on the Gold Coast was like paradise. The friendships I forged in that time are still the closest and most significant in my life.
How has being a Bond graduate helped you in your career?
It opened so many doors when I was very young. I completed my MBA when I was 21 I became the GM of Gucci Timepieces for Asia Pacific when I was just 24 -- impossible without my degree from Bond. I also became the youngest ever General Manager for two Estee Lauder companies when I was 27. Again impossible without my Bond degrees and experience. The experience at Bond instilled an amazing work ethic, confidence and the ability to back my ambition with the right qualifications to reach for the stars.
What have been your career highlights so far?
I've had many career highlights and ‘pinch me’ moments, but my most treasured personal and career achievement was the publication of my book RESCU Me! A Makeover Guide for A Life More Fabulous Life, by Harper Collins in 2016.
What advice would you give to current Bondies?
Enjoy every single moment. It is a truly unique and privileged experience to attend and graduate from such a visionary university. You will always be a Bondy.
What does it mean to you to be a Bondy?
Being a Bondy has always made me feel like a pioneer. I feel that I belong to a family of trailblazers and risk-takers.
What is your favourite memory of Bond?
My first graduation. Standing under the Arch with my friends and family taking photos on a perfect Gold Coast day. I remember being heartbroken to be leaving. That's why I came back for my MBA just four months later.
