Meet our Bondies | Jon King

In our first 30 years, almost 30,000 alumni have graduated from Bond University. To celebrate our 30th anniversary, we’re showcasing some of the past students who have paved the way for the next generation of Bondies.

Meet Jon King.

What is your current role?

Chief Operating Officer, Silicon Quantum Computing.

Where are you based?

Kensington, NSW.

Why did you choose to attend Bond?

A​​​​​ccelerated program (three terms a year -- at the time, other unis only did two).

What are your recollections of your time here?

Too many to mention. All very positive. Great people (students, staff and academics) – all friendly and helpful, leading to lifelong friendships; great facilities; lots of fun and easy learning environment; lots of adventures; beautiful environment, etc.

How has being a Bond graduate helped you in your career?

Helped me get role at Allens (first professional job). Gave me a lot of professional confidence and spirit of entrepreneurship..

What have been your career highlights so far?  

Lots. Top law firm in Australia. Then working in the US as a lawyer. Then my own VC advisory firm. Then CSIRO (and love of start-ups). Ultimately to my current role (i.e. dream job), working with brilliant people and cutting edge of technology to change the world!

What advice would you give to current Bondies?

Chase your dreams. Have patience. Be humble. What you are looking for is out there (eventually). But don’t forget to think and use your smarts.

What does it mean to you to be a Bondy?

Belonging.

What is your favourite memory of Bond?

Too many, so many.

Anything else you would like to share?

I’d like to remember some of us that won’t be here, in particular our very good friend James Lewis (903) who passed last year.
