Meet our Bondies | Karen and Matt Perkins

In our first 30 years, almost 30,000 alumni have graduated from Bond University. To celebrate our 30th anniversary, weโ€™re showcasing some of the past students who have paved the way for the next generation of Bondies.

Meet Karen and Matt Perkins (Master of Arts [CRICOS 078662F], Bachelor of Laws [CRICOS 093922K]) - their love story started at Bond.

What is your current role?            

Matt: Iโ€™m a barrister at the Queensland Bar

Karen: Faculty Executive Manager, Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and IT, University of Queensland.

Where are you based?  

Brisbane.

Why did you choose to attend Bond?     

Matt: I discovered that studying law at UQ was not for me.

Karen: I was working at Bond and did a Master's degree.

What are your recollections of your time here? 

Matt: Desire among students and staff to make the uni something special.

Karen: There was a great orientation program, and meeting each other.

How has being a Bond graduate helped you in your career?         

Matt: It has enabled me to have a career in the law, both in Australia and overseas.

Karen: Bond was the start of a career in the university sector in Australia and overseas.

What have been your career highlights so far?   

Matt: Being called to the Bar, and previously heading up Child Protection in a London borough.

Karen: Achieving a senior role at UQ.

What advice would you give to current Bondies?              

Matt: Donโ€™t panic.

Karen: Buy the textbook!

What does it mean to you to be a Bondy?            

Being part of an international network.

What is your favourite memory of Bond?             

Meeting each other!
