Scholarly publishing and open access

Assistance with getting your scholarly works published is available from the Library. This includes:

  • communication
  • inclusion in government reporting
  • copyright and other licensing information

Open access publishing

The Bond University Open Access Policy (USP 1.04) has been in place since October 2013.

The policy specifically addresses the University's support of Green and Gold Open Access research publications and funder requirements.

Reasons for adoption of this policy include the benefits of Open Access in:

  • Raising your online presence leads to increased visibility, exposure, and impact of your research through expanded readership
  • Providing free online access to peer-reviewed research. You are not limited by institutional subscriptions to a defined group of journals
  • Increasing public visibility of research being undertaken at Bond University as it facilitates and reveals research activity, knowledge-sharing, and innovation

Read and publish agreements

Open access publishing is supported by read & publish agreements. CAUL (Council of Australian University Librarians) negotiates these agreements on behalf of Australian and New Zealand university libraries.

Authors can publish their papers openly with no article processing charges (APCs). The selected journals are with nine major publishers:

  • Cambridge University Press
  • CSIRO Publishing
  • Elsevier
  • Hindawi
  • Oxford University Press
  • Sage
  • Springer Nature
  • Taylor & Francis
  • Wiley

Bond open access journals

Bond University publishes several quality, peer-reviewed, ‘Diamond’ model journals. In this model, accepted articles are published at no cost to the author or reader.

All journal articles have a Creative Commons licence. They can be downloaded and shared according to the terms of the licence. See the About page of each journal for details.

The journals are hosted on the Scholastica platform. Scholastica enables journal editors and administrators to manage the entire peer-review and publishing process online.

Please contact the Manager, Scholarly Publications and Copyright with any enquiries.

Research data management

Research data is increasingly recognised as both a valuable asset and as valid research output.

Some journals, particularly in the sciences, are starting to require that data be made available to support research conclusions. An increasing trend is for shared data to be a required research funding.

The Library can help with:

  • Publishing data sets and descriptions for open access, long-term preservation and discovery
  • Recommendations for discipline-specific data repositories
  • Describing data sets for inclusion in services such as Research Data Australia for broader discovery and dissemination
  • Practical advice and templates for a research data management plan
