Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation Chairman, Peter Beattie AC, will discuss the unprecedented opportunity hosting the biggest sporting event ever held on the Gold Coast will provide the community, at a business lunch at Bond University next month (March).
As the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games fast approaches, Mr Beattie will present to hundreds of leading business identities at the first Bond University Business Leaders Forum for 2017 on Thursday, 7 March.
In his role as Chairman of the Games, Mr Beattie is responsible for delivering the largest international sporting event to be held in Australia in more than a decade, drawing on his extensive experience in both the political and business arenas.
Mr Beattie is recognised as one of the most electorally successful politicians in Australia, having served as the 36th Premier of Queensland for nine years and leading the Australian Labour Party (ALP) in Queensland from 1996 to 2007.
Bond Business School Executive Dean, Professor Terry O'Neill, said the Business Leaders Forum was an opportunity to hear directly from Mr Beattie on how to get behind, and make the most of, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
"Mr Beattie's extensive knowledge of business and the state of Queensland, puts him in a unique position to offer advice on how small business can capitalise on this iconic event and how the community can come together to make this a true celebration of sport and our city," said Mr O'Neill.
"During the Commonwealth Games, which will be held in April 2018, there will be representatives from 70 nations and territories residing on the Gold Coast, including more than 6,600 athletes and officials, and 3,000 media. With a broadcast audience of 1.5 billion, the Gold Coast will be showcased to a world stage.
"The Games Corporation is now recruiting 15,000 volunteers, so members of the community have an opportunity to become directly involved in making this event a great success for the city.
"We look forward to hearing from Mr Beattie about the various ways both Gold Coast businesses and the broader community can take part in - and take advantage of - this once in a lifetime opportunity."
The Bond Business Leaders Forum will be held in the Princeton Room at Bond University on Thursday, March 7, from 11.45am to 2.00pm.
Tickets to the event are $75 per person or $600 for a table of 10, which includes a two-course lunch and beverages.
