MEMORANDUM
It is increasingly likely that the current weather event will leave an impact beyond its immediacy especially in relation to access to campus with many road closures and limited transportation options. While the conditions for tomorrow (Friday) are forecast to subside through the early morning, we are conscious that our students and staff need some certainty. Moreover, several in our community are facing challenging circumstances in relation to their own properties and road access. Indeed I believe that some in our community will be in quite difficult and distressing circumstances and I express my heartfelt best wishes and thoughts to you.
In light of these conditions, the decision has been taken to maintain closure of the campus for tomorrow. All classes scheduled for tomorrow will be cancelled and arrangements for make-up classes will be at the discretion of the individual subject coordinators. We expect classes to commence on Monday as scheduled.
I appreciate that some students have assignments and other assessment items due early next week. In consultation with the Executive Deans, all deadlines for assignments, projects and essays due on either Monday 3 April or Tuesday 4 April will now be pushed back until Wednesday 5 April. However, there are some tests and exams in HSM scheduled for early next week and these will go ahead as planned.
If you do not need to be on campus, please stay away. A decision on events scheduled for the weekend will be made tomorrow.
Students in residence are safe and dry. Your senior res fellows will be in contact about any local arrangements. The MLC remains open but will close at 10.00pm tonight. Students who are not in residence are requested to make arrangements to depart campus by 8.00pm. Any students residing in Varsity Towers should also vacate campus by 8.00pm as access across the weir will become problematic with the incoming high tide.
All staff will be paid for tomorrow and this will not impact on any leave entitlements. Those staff who do not have to attend to any personal property issues are requested to work from home tomorrow and utilise email, phone and other communications to conduct usual business.
