Social entrepreneur and former advisor to the Mandela Government, Baroness Valerie Amos, will this month (June) speak at a women's lunch at Bond University about her work in politics and public service, and why embracing risk is critical to creating change.
A trailblazing pioneer in global politics and diplomacy, gender equality, development and humanitarian issues, Baroness Amos will draw on her global experience in the public sector, including her role as Chief Executive of the Equal Opportunities Commission, to provide an insight into the difference between politicians and leaders, smashing glass ceilings and challenging the status quo.
Baroness Amos served as British High Commissioner to Australia, an officer of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative to the Commonwealth of Australia.
She has advised Nelson Mandela's Government on leadership, change, management and strategy, and served as International Development Secretary and Leader of the House of Lords in Tony Blair's Government.
Baroness Amos served as the UN Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator for five years, before joining the University of London as Director of The School of Oriental and African Studies.
Visiting from the United Kingdom, Baroness Amos' only public appearance on the Gold Coast will be at Bond University for the Entrepreneurial Women Series: Inspiring Change at the University Club from 12pm to 2pm on Wednesday, June 21.
That same evening, Baroness Amos, a firm believer in the power of education, will talk to Bond University students about the "I" Factor - Inspiration, Influence and Impulse, as part of the Bond Transformer Series.
