Bond University joins forces with Screen Queensland to launch on-campus Creative Hub

Bond University and Screen Queensland have paired up to launch an Australian-first co-working hub that will see screen industry creatives such as filmmakers, producers, writers and game developers, working alongside students and sharing green screens, boardrooms and office space.

The partnership expands Screen Queensland’s Brisbane-based sqhub to include the new co-working space called the Creative Hub, located at Bond University’s Gold Coast campus.

At the launch of the hub on Saturday, 15 June, Bond University Faculty of Society and Design Executive Dean, Professor Derek Carson, said the Creative Hub was a great example of the university working in alignment with industry to get the best outcome for its students.

“If we really do think that we design programs to ensure that our students have the skills that mean that they are going to be successful in the careers they want to do, then it’s my firm opinion that we have to work in partnership, we have to work with industry, because that’s how we best ensure that we’re preparing our students.”

Screen Queensland CEO Tracey Vieira said the organisation had quickly seen the benefits of collaboration, after launching sqhub.

“What we saw immediately, was when you put people together from different disciplines in screen, including games, whether it’s music composers, whether it’s writers, producers, digital content developers, they start to collaborate, and they start to think differently.”

Bond University Vice Chancellor and President, Professor Tim Brailsford, described the new Creative Hub as “the next evolution of the film and television industry.”

Applications for residency at the Creative Hub are now open to Queensland-based production and game development companies, as well as individual practitioners, with 12 desks available.

Successful applicants receive 24/7 access to the Creative Hub, use of its meeting and screening rooms, and access to a green screen room, kitchen and end-of-trip facilities.

Residency at the Creative Hub also includes a business development incubator, networking opportunities and free access to all Creative Hub and sqhub events, workshops and masterclasses, as well as connections from Bond University’s Film, Screen and Creative Media disciplines.
