Can Bull Sharks passion pop Grange?

AFL

With the QFA men’s teams on a bye week, all eyes are on the women as they as they face Wilson Grange in their QAFLW round 9 match-up at The Canal.

While they won against UQ last week, Director of AFL and head coach Andy Lovell said their game didn’t come together until the second half.

“Our contested ball really struggled in the first half and we made some clumsy mistakes,” Lovell said.

“But if we can bring our style of footy this weekend, that will be the key in winning.”

Here’s what you need to know.

Last time they met

In their round 3 encounter, Bond emerged with a convincing 75-17 win over Wilson Grange.

However Lovell said the Bull Sharks must focus on the present challenge.

“Wilston Grange have improved massively since our last match-up,” he said.

“We’re going to need to be on our game on Saturday as I expect it will be a pretty tight.”

Returning faces

Last week’s return of several valued Bull Sharks from their academy commitments brings an additional layer of talent to their line-up.

However, Lovell acknowledged that re-establishing synergy may take time due to the changes in the team composition.

“It’s great having these girls back in the team because they’re obviously a talented group,” he said.

“We were just a bit unsettled last week as they really hadn’t played together since round 1, so having this extra week to play and train together I expect that their cohesion will really improve.”

Focus points

While the Bull Sharks currently sit one spot above Wilston Grange, Lovell said their ladder position was not his primary focus.

“Obviously it will be an end result, but each week we’re really just trying to improve our game individually and collectively,” he said.

“Every week we just aim to enhance our skills and improve on our overall game knowledge.”
