Perry's degree plays out as an action-adventure movie

Bachelor of Film and Television graduate Perry Briggs.

It was a whirlwind final year of university for Perry Briggs, with stints working at the Brisbane Lions, Dick Johnson Racing and a week-long assignment in the Solomon Islands.

Fortunately, as the man behind the camera, he can kick back with popcorn and relive the adventure whenever he wants.

Mr Briggs, 20, has graduated with a Bachelor of Film and Television which has already opened doors he could only have dreamed of as a 12-year-old who started out editing YouTube videos for gamers.

Alongside his studies, Mr Briggs worked as a videographer covering Bond University’s rugby and AFL teams through their triumphant 2023 seasons.

That led to the chance to gain experience with the Lions, followed by an internship with the legendary Gold Coast motor-racing dynasty.

“I got to do some filming at Brisbane Lions training and at a game day that was used on their social media channels,” Mr Briggs said.

“Following the Lions’ videographer around on game day and going into the change rooms and seeing how everything works was pretty cool.

“At DJR I edited a mini documentary on Dick and his two sons.”

For someone hoping to find work as a video content producer with a major sports team, Mr Briggs’ show reel was already brimming.

But when the Bond University Newsroom’s digital and media producer was unable to undertake a filming mission in the Solomon Islands, Mr Briggs got the call-up.

He spent five days in the remote Western Province, videoing and interviewing Bond University medical students working at Gizo Hospital for this video:

Solomon Islands - Capstone Placement

“I don't think I knew what I was getting into,” he said. “I thought, it's going to be like a tropical holiday!

“I just tried to get as much footage as I could.

“Wherever the students were, I was there with my camera, filming.”

Mr Briggs said he would always remember his time in The Solomons with his fellow Bondies.

“The thing that stuck with me was just how happy the kids are,” he said.

“They have so much less that we do but they are always smiling and whenever we weren’t filming, we were playing with them.”

Mr Briggs’ video is the ‘hero’ of the university’s Medical Program web page and will be shown to future Bondies at open days, career expos and school visits.
