Spirits are running high for both senior men and women Bull Sharks, fuelled by their recent wins over ladder-leaders in their respective competitions.
After shattering Southport’s winning streak in their most recent match, the senior women are coming off a bye feeling rested and ready to go for their upcoming clash against the Aspley Hornets.
Also coming off an outstanding win against the previously undefeated Burleigh Bombers, the senior men aim to keep the ball rolling when they take on the Robina Roos in their away game this weekend.
Both teams are eager to maintain their top-two ladder positions as they near the QFA and QAFLW finals.
Here’s what you need to know.
Last time they met
The senior men last encountered Robina in round 1 where they convincingly beat the Roos 59-36.
The senior women faced Aspley in round 5 where the Hornets emerged victorious by a mere 6 points, 43-49.
This time around the Bull Sharks have a home ground advantage.
Despite their recent successes, senior women’s coach Andy Lovell reminded his team to stay vigilant.
“Aspley are a really good side and we certainly respect their strengths,” he said.
“They play a bit more of a counterattack, slingshot game off their half-back and they’re very quick, so it’s definitely going to be a challenge for us.”
Focus points
Whilst the senior men continue to focus on their stoppage work, the senior women have been working on their contest and pressure.
“Every area that we’ve been working on, the girls executed incredibly well in our game against Southport,” Lovell said.
“I’ve also been really happy with the way that they have been using the ball when going inside our 50, so hopefully we can keep this going in our match-up against Aspley.”
Who’s in, who’s out
The senior men will be without key defender Will King who suffered a shoulder dislocation against Burleigh.
Other than that, the men’s and women’s sides are expected to remain largely unchanged.
Coach Lovell said: “It’s pretty hard to want to change a winning formula.”
