A Bond ski team? It's snow joke!

A snow sports club on the Gold Coast - you don’t see that every day.

Bond University held its club sign-on day this week and one of the more unlikely newcomers was Bond University Snow Sports (BUSS).

The club was established by president Mia Foreman, a Bondy who is determined to represent the snow enthusiasts among the student cohort.

Students from diverse backgrounds and regions were all drawn to the social club, eager to connect with others with a shared love for snow sports.

The club aims to organise events, ski trips, and social gatherings and hopefully compete in the upcoming Uni Sport Nationals at Thredbo in September.

“The response has been amazing and I’ve been blown away with the support and interest from the Bond community,” Foreman said.

“We had over 40 people sign up on the day and there was even a guy from Utah who came up and told us how he was so excited that there’ll be skiing because that’s what he’d grown up doing.

“Some of these students interacting with us on social media are actually really talented snow athletes, and had we not started this club we probably never would have known.”

Growing up in Melbourne, Foreman’s own connection to the snow was established at an early age.

Inspired by her mother’s stories of ski club during her university days, she saw an opportunity to bring that same sense of camaraderie and adventure to Bond University.

“My mum always talked to me about how her ski club provided some of the most memorable moments of her university life,” she said.

“When I moved to Bond at the beginning of this year, I saw the opportunity to contribute to the community and replicate a similar thing here.”
