The Bull Sharks consolidated their QAFLW campaign with a 62-13 victory over Wilston Grange on Saturday which elevated the team to third place on the ladder ahead of next month’s semi-finals.
The Bond side came out charging to get 19 points on the board before the first minor break and then continued their relentless defence to keep their opposition at bay in the second quarter.
A number of goals scored late in the second half opened up the margin and ultimately granted Bond a 42-point finish ahead of the home team.
Consistent pressure from the midfield saw Georgia Johnson, Georgia Hutton, Jasmyn Davidson and Teagan Tatlock take out best players of the round alongside captain Paris Lightfoot and vice-captain Annie Muir.
The repeat win against their Round 1 rivals reinforced the Bond team’s strength and continued determination to contend for premiership success.
“They definitely brought the pressure, but I think our girls came out to match it and really emphasised that we’re here to win,” Bond forward Mikayla Pauga said.
“Our mids’ and backs’ pressure was really good and the girls are starting to take some great marks and hangers, and we’re seeing some good connection through the field.
“The girls are definitely starting to pull it together and we’ve got good communication and strong relationships which I think will carry us through.
“We’re just really looking forward to the end of the season where we can show what we’re made of.”
The men’s senior team also pulled out an impressive win on unfamiliar grounds, defeating the Tweed Coast Tigers by 130 points across the New South Wales border.
The victory carved a double-digit divot between the Bull Sharks and Carrara who are placed first and second respectively on the QFA ladder.
The women’s reserves rounded out the day with a 49-8 victory over Wilston Grange, overcoming cold temperatures and a strong Brisbane side on Saturday night.
