Grey steps into the blue and gold

Georgia Grey

Georgia Grey is stepping out of her father’s shadow and onto the field as a Bond Bull Shark next year.

As the daughter of long-serving NSW and Wallabies inside centre Nathan Grey, she will have a distinct advantage when she pulls on the blue and gold.

“He was the one who first taught me to tackle,” says Grey.

“It’s been a bonus to be able to have those extra sessions and hearing the knowledge from someone who has achieved so much in the game.”

Dad Nathan, who spent five years as assistant coach for the national team and is currently head coach for the Junior Wallabies, has been a strong supporter of his daughter’s rugby journey.

“There was plenty of footy in our house with dad’s history, and with both my brother and I playing. Dad has always just encouraged me to be the best version of myself and give 110 per cent on and off the field.”

Grey will balance her rugby career by studying a Bachelor of Sport Management after being awarded a Sport Leadership Scholarship. She’ll also be navigating a new city, moving to the Gold Coast from her hometown of Sydney in January.

She’s already a familiar face to her Bull Sharks teammates, joining them for part of Bond’s successful 7s season in which they took out the Charlotte Caslick

Cup and the State Title, and is keen to become a regular fixture.

“I loved every minute of it, the team culture within Bond is something that I’ve never experienced before, it was amazing and I’m really looking forward to joining the program full time,” she said.

“My love of rugby and the love of a club like Bond is why I wanted to come to the Gold Coast.

“The opportunity I’ve been given to be able to play footy for a great club and study away from home is super exciting. Dad did his schooling at The Southport School so he knows how great coming to Queensland is and the different opportunities it can bring.

“This year has been really enjoyable year so 2023 is just about trying to play the best footy I can and equally achieving great results in my study while exploring and meeting new people at Bond.”
