Hornets get revenge in Grand Final rematch.

Our QAFLW side can expect a tough week on the track after coach Andy Lovell was left disappointed in their performance in the Grand Final rematch with Aspley.

Bull Sharks v Aspley

Shannon Nolan
Shannon Nolan has been a model of consistency in 2024 and was again among the best players on the weekend.

Bull Sharks lost 7.5 (47) to 3.2 (20)

Best: Maisy Evans, Shannon Nolan, Imogen Evans, Courtney Sexton, Ella Calleja, Jasmyn Davidson.

Where it was won:

Aspley’s superior run and carry and transition on offence and defence won them the game. They outnumbered us and connected by hand and foot better than us.

What made You happy:

Not much from the game made me happy. It was by far our poorest performance to date. On a brighter note the continued improvement of our Reiwoldt Family AFL Excellence scholarship holder Maisy Evans is exciting. She battled hard all day against the odds and never gave up. She is very competitive.

Bull Sharks Footy:

It was disappointing that we weren’t able to display our usual hardness and competitive nature. Aspley outmuscled us and structurally they were able to hold their shape more effectively than we were.

The work to do:

The reality is losing is a part of competitive sport and while emotionally we are very disappointed in our collective efforts, there will be some critical learnings to come from the performance.

Contested ball is not a negotiable- it must be the foundation upon which we construct our game style.

Structure and shape is paramount to being able to effectively defend the opposition’s ball movement and conversely sets us up to counter attack.

We must gut run to outnumber the opposition around uncontested ball.

Trademark Player:

Maisy Evans competed strongly in the ruck and her follow up efforts over the ground ball were on display all game. As she continues to develop her all-round game and skills set she’ll become even more damaging for us.

Reserves

Bull Sharks lost 4.4 (28) 3.3 (21)

Best: Georgia Johnson, Tara Radford, Chelsea Cooper, Georgia Wakefield, Madison Furlong, Georgia Hamilton.
