International rugby returns to The Canal

The first of two women’s international Test matches at Bond University kicked off over the weekend.

Japan squared off against Fiji to begin the ‘road to New Zealand’ Test series in an entertaining match in front of big crowds on Sunday afternoon.

The Fijian side started strongly with back-to-back tries to lead 14-0 but the Japanese fought late in the first half to level the score 14-14 going into half time.

The second half was all about the Japanese who came out firing, scoring three consecutive tries in enterprising fashion closing out the match 28-14.

Bond University will host the Australian Wallaroos against the Japanese on Tuesday, May 10 as the team continues preparations for the Rugby World Cup later in the year.

Bond Bull Sharks players Melanie Wilks and Madi Schuck have been selected in the Wallaroos squad, relishing the opportunity to represent Australia on home soil.

Tickets for the match are available from Ticketek with a special offer for the Bond University community by using the code Bonduni.
