Kate Kyros may not study science, but she certainly understands Chemistry.
Her horse Chemistry, that is.
In just 18 months, this dynamic duo has made significant strides in the international and national equestrian dressage scene.
And after an impressive six-month tour competing in the international circuit across the USA and Europe, Kyros and Chemistry recently returned to Australia.
Their first event back on home soil was the Brisbane CDI last week, where her points also contributed to the Bond equestrian club's Intervarsity ranking.
Despite facing several challenges, including recent surgery, Kyros was delighted with the pair’s efforts.
"I am overjoyed with our performance,” she said.
“It was a leap of faith entering our first CDI3* Grand Prix especially because I had shoulder surgery 7 weeks ago and I’m not 'technically' meant to be riding.
“I feel our results this week are a testament to the strong partnership I have built with Chemistry since our first competition together 18 months ago.
“As always there is lots to improve on and we come away from this event with such valuable information for training.
“I am so blessed to have Chemistry in my life.”
As the youngest competitor in her class, Kyros - and Chemistry - showcased their blossoming partnership by claiming a clean sweep of event golds and two title trophies.
They secured gold medals in the CDI3* Grand Prix, CDI3* Grand Prix Special, and CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle.
These outstanding performances earned Kyros FEI Big Tour Champion and FEI Young Rider Big Tour Champion titles.
Kyros's dedication extends beyond the show grounds.
The 20-year-old is currently pursuing a double degree in law and business at Bond University.
Her goal is to one day apply these skills in the equestrian industry.
Kyros's hard work and achievements, on the showgrounds and as a student, have not gone unnoticed.
She recently earned a Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship for 2025 – the only Equestrian athlete chosen among a group of 32 scholarship winners.
"I am honoured to be a Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship recipient,” she said.
“It is amazing to be recognised for my hard work and dedication as an equestrian athlete amongst so many other talented young sportspeople.”
