A fifth premiership cup is on its way back to Bond Sport headquarters after the Bull Sharks soccer club’s Grand Final victory over the Kingscliff Wolves at The Canal.
After a shaky start, the Bull Sharks brought it home in a dominant second half to take a 2-0 victory in Football Queensland’s South Coast Division 2 Grand Final.
How it unfolded
From first kick-off each side displayed tenacity and hunger required for the stakes at hand.
For the most part, Kingscliff held possession of the ball and spent the majority of the time in their half of the field.
The Bull Sharks defence put in a lot of effort to regain possession of the ball however simple mistakes consistently allowed Kingscliff to regain control.
The Wolves were also the first team to have a shot at goal after Bond made a foul resulting in a free kick.
Thankfully for Bond Kingscliff missed.
When the half time whistle blew the score stood at 0-0, however the Wolves appeared to be the stronger team with faster and cleaner ball movement.
Bond brought a renewed energy into the second half.
The match’s prior script was reversed and Bond held their own against Kingscliff’s defence and the ball remained mostly within the Bull Sharks’ territory.
Bond finally reaped the reward of their efforts when Jamie Leden took an impressive header that went straight over the Wolves’ keeper and into the goal.
Bond continued to come alive throughout the second half and were constantly in possession of the ball.
As Kingscliff’s spirits were already sinking, Shaun Edwards sealed the deal on Bond’s victory when he kicked another goal in the dying stages of the game, bringing the final score to 2-0.
What they said
Head coach Kaden Boehme said he couldn’t be happier with the result.
“It feels incredible to get the win tonight,” he said.
“The boys have worked hard all season so it’s great that they were able to get the job done one more time and end the season on a high.”
Having previously been a player for the Bull Sharks, Boehme’s inaugural season as coach has yielded an impressive outcome.
“It’s definitely been different this year with Bond as a coach and not a player,” he said.
“I’m definitely glad that I stepped up and was able to help the boys in getting to where we are today and I couldn’t be prouder of us.”
