The Bull Sharks will be hoping a festive home crowd on Saturday can spur them on against the GPS Gallopers as the club celebrates Past Players’ Day.
The First Grade men are chasing their sixth win of the season and it is also a crucial match for Colts One to keep them in touch of top four on the ladder. GPS women's side have forfeited so there will be no Premier Women's action this weekend.
Here’s the three things you need to know about game day.
Where will it be won
The Gallopers arrive at The Canal full of confidence having won two on the trot including an impressive win over ladder leaders Brothers. One man looking to stem that momentum is Bond prop Levi Samuela.
“They are big so we will need to fight them physically and be really accurate at our set piece and around the breakdown to give our backs the chance to do what they do best,” he said.
Scrum time has been a focus for the Bull Sharks this season and they have shown real dominance in the dark arts, something that didn’t just happen overnight.
“We have put a real focus on staying connected and being patient as a pack and it's something I have worked on personally,” he said.
“And as we have seen in the results on the field, our confidence has grown from all the hard work we have put in.’’
Levi is one half of a Bond brother duo with his older sibling Helaman packing up front.
The front row duo had the opportunity to start in the First Grade side together for the first time two weeks ago.
“Since we started our journey here at Bond it’s been a goal of ours to start together, so to get that chance against Norths was definitely a highlight for our family and I hope we can get a few more this year,” Samuela said.
It’ll be a big day for
Bond Rugby, which is celebrating Past Players’ Day as part of Homecoming week at the University.
The club will pay tribute to the pioneers from 1989, through the Gold Coast Breakers era and onto until today where the Bull Sharks have built successful programs in both men’s and women's for 15s and 7s forms of the games.
