Strauch, Winnington add silvers to Dolphins tally

Jenna Strauch and Elijah Winnington (pictured) have added two silver medals to Australia’s tally at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest.

Strauch finished second in the women’s 200m breaststroke behind America’s Lilly King, who came from fifth in the last 25m to secure victory.

King has dominated the last two instalments of the event and also collected gold in the 100m breaststroke at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Strauch, who was the fastest qualifier for the final, thanked her family in Bendigo for being part of her journey.

“It’s hard to find words to describe this moment but all I can say is no matter where you’ve come from or what you’ve been through, if you have a dream, work hard and find a way to make it happen,” she said.

“To be second in the world today is my fairy-tale!”

Elijah Winnington, Zac Incerti, Sam Short and Mack Horton claimed silver in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay.

On the first day of the meet Winnington won his first World Championship title in an incredible 400m freestyle final.

The Dolphins currently sit second behind the United States on the medal table with four golds, seven silvers and a bronze.

The championships finish on July 3.
