Winter is coming for Water Polo glory

SCORING against the Australian Olympic goalkeeper has given Cosi Winter confidence she can compete at the highest level of water polo.

Winter is studying a Bachelor of Design in Architecture at Bond University while competing across Queensland.

“I scored against Gabriella Palm - the Olympic goalie who went to Tokyo - a few times in the Premier League, which was really a good feeling,” Winter said.

“Scoring against her and performing really well against girls like that gives you a lot of confidence.

“I've been lucky to know a lot of really good players, and to be able to spend time and learn from a lot of really good players.”

Winter competed at the Queensland Country Championships in Cairns last month and was recently named in the Queensland representative team.

The 18-year-old got the opportunity to play against the Australian Stingers ahead of the Tokyo Olympics and has seen first-hand what it takes to get to the elite level.

“I'm pretty realistic, I know how much effort something like that requires,” she said.

“A lot of my friends just made the Australian squad and I’ve seen how they have to devote their entire life and time to the sport.

“I’d really like to see how far I can go, but I want to have a balance between that and a career.”

Winter has moved from the Sunshine Coast to live on campus and study at Bond University.

“I love water polo and competing but I also really enjoy other things. Balance is really important,” she said.

“Bond has been great and I’m really enjoying it.

“I really enjoy design, architecture and writing and I’d love to get into architectural journalism. It’s niche, but it is something I really want to look at.”
