BCDP02-006: Principles of Economics

Description

Students are introduced to economic analysis and its applications. Topics include: decision making, analysis of constraints, analysis of benefits and costs, maximisation, competitive pressures and market forces and public policy issues. By the end of the subject, successful students will be equipped with the tools of economics and prepared to address economic problems in their day to day lives, industry, politics, society and the environment.

Learning outcomes

  1. Explain economic systems and the concept of resource allocation.
  2. Describe the fundamental principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics.
  3. Explain the role of individuals and businesses in different types of market structures, including perfect competition, monopolistic competition, monopoly, and oligopoly.
  4. Explain how regulatory and political environments can impact business.
  5. Describe the effect of changes in macroeconomic policies and indicators on business activity.

Assumed knowledge is the minimum level of knowledge of a subject area that students are assumed to have acquired through previous study. It is the responsibility of students to ensure they meet the assumed knowledge expectations of the subject. Students who do not possess this prior knowledge are strongly recommended against enrolling and do so at their own risk. No concessions will be made for students’ lack of prior knowledge.

Restrictions:

Must be admitted into a Bond College Diploma Program.
