LAWS77-591: IT Law, Privacy and Cyber-Security

Description

IT Law, Privacy and Cyber-Security is a compulsory subject in the Master of Laws in Enterprise Governance offered by the Faculty of Law. The subject will examine the laws regulating information technology, privacy and cyber-security as they apply to enterprises as well as the consequences of non-compliance. Students will learn about the key features and legal challenges associated with new technologies, learn how to assess and manage privacy risks, and appreciate the importance of cyber-security to a successful enterprise.

Learning outcomes

  1. Analyse and critically evaluate the key features and legal challenges inherent in IT, both at an enterprise level and in a global context, considering the perspectives of various stakeholders including regulators, clients, and shareholders.
  2. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the enterprise’s legal obligations regarding privacy, including assessing privacy risks and create strategies for enterprises to fulfill their obligations whilst effectively managing these risks.
  3. Evaluate the legal implications of recent and potential future cyber-threats and develop enterprise strategies which will effectively anticipate, minimise, and mitigate them.
