SDEM71-124: Environmental Consulting in Practice

Description

Regulatory pressure, as well as general public awareness and demand for more environmentally conscious companies, is compelling businesses to set increasingly ambitious environmental and sustainability goals. Environmental consultants provide the essential core knowledge and skills to achieve these goals. The field of environmental consulting is large and expanding, encompassing consultants who apply a diverse range of professional skills to address a wide array of challenges and opportunities for clients in both private and public sectors.  To be successful, an environmental consultant needs to have more than just technical proficiency in a core discipline (e.g., botany or coastal engineering), they must also possess the ability to contextualise their technical expertise within a broader professional landscape. In this subject, students learn what makes a successful environmental consultant, project budgeting, skills necessary for crafting successful competitive project tenders, an understanding of the project go/no-go process, and the critical importance of project risk assessment.
