Bachelor of International Relations/ Bachelor of Business

Program overview

Our fast-track trimester timetable makes it easy to tackle a double degree at Bond. In fact, you can complete two degrees here in less time than you could graduate with just one at most other universities.

Bond’s Bachelor of International Relations and Bachelor of Business combination can be done in less than 3 years (8 semesters), whereas it can take up to 3 years to complete either one as a stand-alone degree elsewhere.

The combination of international relations and business will set you up for a career on the global stage. It provides the perfect package of fundamental business skills in management, economics, human resources, marketing and statistics, and an in-depth understanding of international politics, ideologies, diplomacy, and governance. This, combined with Bond’s strong focus on leadership and entrepreneurship, will help you stand out to future employers.

You will be engaged by a dynamic study program that includes developing and starting your own business; meeting mentors and potential investors; and overseas study, internship, and Model UN experiences.

In Bond’s small, personalised classes, students have access to state-of-the-art facilities in the Bond FinTech Hub, the Commercialisation Centre, the Centre for Data Analytics and Transformer.

Studying these two in-demand degrees at the same time also represents a significant cost saving compared to studying the two degrees separately.

What you'll be studying

  • Study overview

Bond’s combined Bachelor of International Relations and Bachelor of Business program is made up of 32 subjects (320 credit points), covering three Core University subjects, 12 International Relations subjects, 15 Business subjects (including a 6-subject major) and 2 general electives selected from any faculty of the University.

Taking a full-time study load of 4 subjects per semester, you can complete the double degree in 2 years 8 months (eight semesters) as follows:

Program features

  • Double career options

A double degree in business and international relations broadens your range of job and career opportunities from international trade, development, and diplomacy through to business management, tourism, marketing, and human resources.

  • Active learning

Our international relations teaching embraces an ‘active learning’ model, engaging students in real world simulations that bridge the gap between theory and practice. You will also have the opportunity to experience it all first-hand through for-credit internships in Australia and overseas.

  • Access global experiences

Bond is an active participant in the global Model United Nations program. We are the only university in Australia offering a dedicated Model UN subject. We also have the Bond University United Nations Students Association which hosts its own Model UN Conference each semester and encourages participation in various humanitarian issues.

  • Gain Bloomberg training

Bond Business School has more Bloomberg terminals than any university in Australia and is one of only three Australian universities to be an official member of the Bloomberg Experiential Learning Partner (ELP) program. Every Bond Business student has 24-hour access to live financial market data in the FinTech Hub as well as the opportunity to complete Bloomberg Essentials and [R] Programming Training.

  • Dual accreditation

Bond Business School is among less than 7% of the world’s 13,000 business programs to have earned accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and less than 2% to have earned European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation. Bond Business School stands alongside only ten other Australian universities that have achieved both of these accreditations.

  • Industry in the classroom

Our business and international relations subjects are taught by people who have worked in the industry but are leaders in their field. In our small group, discussion-based classes, you will be mentored by people like, Ben Hayden-Smith, who has more than 20 years of experience as a management consultant and business advisor; lead consultant at AXS Australia, Vishal Mehrotra; founder of the sports diplomacy field, Stuart Murray; and Director of the Centre for East-West Cultural and Economic Studies, James Ferguson, who has written/co-written numerous books on China.

Hear from our Bondies

  • In my teenage years I was fascinated by the work of the United Nations, conflict resolution, development and international diplomacy. When I enrolled at Bond I knew I wanted to study something that would give me the opportunity to make a change, leave a mark. International relations has provided me with an all-round understanding of the challenges and opportunities of a globalising world and a unique foundation for my future career.

Alessandro Benedetti (Italy) - International relations alumna
  • Assistant Professor of Accounting

Our authentic learning approaches allow us to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Our business students learn to be creative, entrepreneurial, collaborative, and socially responsible global citizens. Some business subjects see students managing events and devising marketing plans for real business clients while others facilitate the development of problem-solving skills through real world case studies and insights gained from industry guest speakers.
