Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science / Doctor of Physiotherapy

Where your degree can take you

The Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science can lead to roles as an accredited exercise scientist (AES), strength and conditioning coach, athletic/sport program coordinator and various positions as a health and fitness consultant, working in corporate and community settings as well as a wide range of other professional outcomes available to graduates.

The Doctor of Physiotherapy is designed to produce work-ready, entry-level graduates who are competent to practice across the lifespan in a range of environments and settings.

Specialty fields

Physiotherapy can be applied to a broad range of core areas which you may be able to specialise in, including: 

  • Orthopaedics
  • Cardiorespiratory
  • Musculoskeletal and Sports
  • Neurological
  • Paediatrics

Rehabilitation

This area is more specific to providing support after injury or surgery and to reduce the likelihood of injury in the future. If you’re interested in rehabilitation, you may be able to work across few key areas include:

  • Neurological and ortho-geriatric rehabilitation   
  • Community rehabilitation 
  • Occupational rehabilitation 
  • Musculoskeletal and orthopaedic rehabilitation

Research and academia

To progress to potential career options in research organisations and academia, you will need to progress to further postgraduate study. You could work in both public and private sectors across the fascinating field of research or academic teaching.

Health and sport

For those with a keen interest in health and sport, you can hone your craft to apply physiotherapy to:

  • Women’s / Men’s Health
  • Sports practice

Professional accreditation

This program is fully accredited with Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) and its subjects align with Exercise Science Standards. Graduates of Bond’s Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science will be recognised in industry after registering as an Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES).

The Bond University Doctor of Physiotherapy program has been accredited as an entry-level program by the Australian Physiotherapy Council and is listed as an approved program of study by The Physiotherapy Board of Australia.

Further study

Pathways into Medicine

The Doctor of Physiotherapy offers a pathway into Bond’s medical program for domestic and international students. The selection process to enter Year 2 of the Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMedSt) will be based on GPA requirements, psychometric testing, and an interview. Applicants must also meet the broader entry requirements for the BMedSt. Please also note that places in Year 2 of the BMedSt are limited and dependent on availability.

Research and academia

Student’s will complete a 12-week clinical internship with an embedded research project in their final semester of the Doctor of Physiotherapy program. Graduates may be eligible to progress to further postgraduate research, leading to potential career options in research organisations and academia.
