Required subjects
Students will have completed one hundred and twenty credit points (120CP) in eight (8) subjects within the Master of Occupational Therapy program, which are credited upon conversion into the Professional Doctorate of Occupational Therapy program.

OCTY71-108: Occupational Therapy: Work (10CP)
Productive occupations provide meaning and purpose in life, as well as improve physical and mental well-being. Productive occupations also reflect contributions to the community and a means to meet human needs. In this subject, you will engage in the occupational therapy role in the field of Work. Topics will include workplace physical and psychological injury prevention, risk management, ergonomics, return to work and pre-employment services, injury management, creating healthy workplaces, the ageing worker, and vocational rehabilitation. Working with a local business, you will apply your knowledge and skills on a weekly basis.

OCTY71-109: Occupational Therapy: Learn, Play, Connect (10CP)
Learning, playing, and connecting are integral to building life skills, mental well-being, and resilience. In this subject, you will explore occupations associated with learning, playing, and connecting. Specific occupational therapy intervention approaches to support participation and engagement across a range of practice settings, including early intervention, education, mental health, and disability, will be explored and applied. This subject includes simulated and community-based practice education experiences.

OCTY71-111: The New Global Occupational Therapist (10CP)
Occupational therapy is a dynamic and changing profession. Contemporary competencies change across time and across international boundaries, with professional boundaries being impacted by the local evolution of the profession in response to local needs, challenges, and opportunities. In this subject, you will develop an understanding of contemporary and international practice issues and take part in workshops to prepare you for international and emerging areas of practice. You will take part in a project-based practice education experience in an immersive role-emerging area of occupational therapy practice.

OCTY71-113: The Occupational Therapy Professional: Practice, Standards and Quality (10CP)
This subject focusses on becoming an occupational therapy professional. This subject will assist you to transition into the workforce, with an understanding of professional bodies and authorities, ethics, governance, quality improvement cycles, and medicolegal implications. You will explore current issues affecting the occupational therapy profession. The subject will culminate with the preparation of a professional portfolio and development plan.

OCTY71-402: Health Professional Research Internship A (10CP)
This subject is the first of a two-stage research internship program. During this stage of the research internship you will finalise your ethics approval and any relevant governance approvals, implement your research plan, and conduct most, if not all, data collection. You will meet regularly with your research supervisor/s for up to one hour per week.

OCTY71-403: Health Professional Research Internship B (10CP)
This subject is the second of a two-stage research internship program. Through the project you will integrate your knowledge and skills from previous occupational therapy and research subjects. During this stage of the research internship you will finalise your project, including completion of data collection, data analysis and preparation of a research presentation and thesis. You will meet regularly with your research supervisor/s for up to one hour per week.

OCTY73-700: Professional Practice in Occupational Therapy I (30CP)
This subject provides supervised practice education in occupational therapy. You will attend a briefing workshop and then complete an equivalent of 12 weeks (480 hours) of supervised practice. Through this experience you will apply your core occupational therapy knowledge and skills, and develop competencies in professionalism, communication, documentation, assessment, intervention and evaluation. You will develop your understanding of occupational therapy and the role of other members of the multidisciplinary team. You will be supervised by an occupational therapist with a minimum of 12 months experience.

Internship
This doctoral-level capstone internship will be completed in either the third or fourth year and is designed to develop advanced research skills in one or more of the following occupational therapy practice areas: clinical skills, research translation, administration, leadership, program and policy development, advocacy, education, or theory development. Under the supervision of an academic mentor and in collaboration with an industry partner, students will engage in an independent scholarly study that meets personal learning objectives and makes a contribution to new knowledge in the field. The duration of the capstone doctoral internship is a minimum of 14 weeks (560 hours) and provides the foundation for subsequent development of a doctoral thesis.

OCTY74-100: Occupational Therapy Doctoral Research Capstone Internship
This doctoral-level capstone internship is designed to develop advanced research skills in one or more of the following occupational therapy practice areas: clinical skills, research translation, administration, leadership, program and policy development, advocacy, education or theory development. This community-based internship builds upon the background research proposal and pilot project completed in pre-requisite coursework during the Master of Occupational Therapy, including Health Research Design and Planning, Research Internship A and Research Internship B, occupational therapy coursework and clinical placements. Under the supervision of an academic mentor and in collaboration with an industry partner, students will engage in an independent scholarly study that meets personal learning objectives and makes a contribution to new knowledge in the field. The duration of the capstone doctoral internship is a minimum of 14 weeks (560 hours) and provides the foundation for subsequent development of a doctoral thesis.

Thesis
During candidature for the Professional Doctorate of Occupational Therapy, the candidate must prepare a doctoral-level thesis which represents a significant contribution to the knowledge or understanding of an aspect of occupational therapy and demonstrates the capacity of the student to carry out independent research at a doctoral level and generate new knowledge.

HLSC99-524: Professional Doctorate Thesis - Health Sciences and Medicine
The Professional Doctorate of Occupational Therapy at Bond University offers the opportunity for advanced application of evidence-based occupational therapy research and practice in the industry. Through engagement in a doctoral capstone experience, students will build upon the comprehensive clinical, business, and research skills developed during the Master of Occupational Therapy program to design and implement an innovative and applied response to a current practice issue through doctoral-level research, contributing to the development of new knowledge in the field. Students will have the opportunity to collaborate and engage meaningfully with industry partners and experienced academic mentors to develop advanced skills and in-depth knowledge in their individual topic of interest in one or more areas, including clinical practice, research administration, leadership, program and policy development, advocacy, education, or theory development. The Professional Doctorate of Occupational Therapy is a higher degree by research program awarded for a combination of coursework, clinical placement, and internship followed by a doctoral thesis. The thesis represents a significant contribution to the knowledge or understanding of an aspect of occupational therapy and demonstrates the capacity of the student to carry out independent research at a doctoral level.
