Studying in Australia

The experience of studying and living overseas is one not to miss – and Australia is the perfect country to begin that journey. Our world-class cities are sophisticated and cosmopolitan. Our climate is warm and sunny practically all year round. We have a multicultural society that eagerly welcomes diversity, including all races and religions. And, best of all, we are a really friendly bunch!

But, perhaps most importantly, our education system is truly world standard. Our universities are recognised internationally, and our tertiary qualifications are accepted by employers and other institutions all over the world. So, it is no surprise that education is one of our biggest export industries, with international students making up more than 20 per cent of Australian university enrolments.

The Gold Coast: a city of growth and innovation

Exploring the best of Australia

If you’re looking to combine your studies with travel, the Gold Coast provides the perfect home base. There’s so much to see and explore in our city, but we’re also a short drive from hotspots like Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and Byron Bay. Hop on a plane to experience it all: from the vast Outback to our World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef, surfing beaches to lush rainforests, and Sydney’s bustling metropolis to quaint country towns.

Life on the Gold Coast

Our campus is based on the vibrant Gold Coast. The fastest growing city in Australia, the Gold Coast is a hub for growth, entrepreneurship, and innovation, with new businesses in exciting industries emerging every day. Studying on the Gold Coast is affordable, dynamic, and full of opportunities to meet other international students – so be sure to get involved however you can!

Know before you go

If studying in Australia appeals to you, it is important that you get a clear picture of what it’s like to live and learn here before you begin the process of applying for university and visas. From finding your community to the basics of healthcare, here are a few things to know before you go…

  • We support student health and wellness with a wide range of offerings, including free access to our Sports Centre, counselling for all students, and wellbeing initiatives throughout the semester.

It’s also crucial your medical needs are looked after, and that you are covered in case of emergency, as international students cannot access our free public healthcare system, Medicare. You must have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) before commencing study in Australia.

  • Before you travel to Australia, it is important to consider the cost of living as an international student, and the expenses that might arise throughout your time here. Keep in mind that most visas only permit 20 hours per week of part-time work, so you may need additional savings to help pay for food, transport, uni costs like textbooks, and rent and bond. To get you started, we’ve compiled an arrival guide to guide you through setting up your finances in Australia.

  • Our community of Bondies is a tightknit one, so once you’ve joined us on campus, making friends should be easy! If you are looking to connect with other students outside of Bond, you might like to pursue recreational activities (sport, performing arts, hobbies and so on), get a part-time job, or even explore the Gold Coast Student Hub, a social and study space designed specifically for students at local universities.

  • All our programs have an assumed level of English language competency. If you don’t meet these requirements, you may be able to undertake our 10-week intensive English program to get you ready for further study. If you do meet the requirements, and just want to continue to expand on your English skills, there are a number of local opportunities including language classes, clubs and immersion experiences.
