Description
Architectural Practice: Management and Procurement develops knowledge and skill in the fundamental skills, strategies, and relevant information to conduct professional architectural practice, focusing on project management and project procurement. The subject is run in a seminar format, including forums, discussions, and guest talks relevant to the assessment tasks including reports and student presentations. Project management skills and procedures, including attention to contracts, legislation, codes, standards, and other frameworks for the procurement and delivery of projects, shall be covered. Project lifecycle, including pre-design, brief writing and checking, schematic, developed, and contract documentation phases and contract administration, are also addressed. An application of how to organise project documentation, drawings, specifications and contractual agreements, forms part of the assessments.

Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate understanding and ability to apply the Architects Act, Australian Standards, Codes, Legislation and other legal and contractual instruments to architecture projects, including copyright, intellectual property and awareness of non-compliance implications through a return brief.
- Evaluate and create project documentation at different stages of a design project cycle, including client management, client architect agreement, principles of project planning, brief writing, site analysis, project feasibility, obtaining approval, risks mitigation, project risk and safety in design, budget, construction and consultant contracts and stages of project development.
- Understand and critically reflect upon the different procurement models and contract law for architect-administered procurement, including method of record keeping, document control, quality assurance, the purpose of identification of defects, and the principles of contract administration during construction.
- Display effective communication and presentation skills as required for project management of building procurement
- Demonstrate understanding and application of detailed design and construction documentation process, including material selection, structural and construction systems, supplier role, finishes, fittings, components and systems, based on consideration of quality and performance standards, through drawings, specifications, schedules and construction documentation
