FITV12-300: Passion Project

Description

This mentored subject is designed for students who are passionate about creating a high-quality creative project intended for industry. This project could be either a short (under 20 minutes) ‘calling-card’ film, a script, a TV bible, a ‘sizzle reel’, a proof-of-concept film or other pitch documentation. Throughout Passion Project, students will regularly meet with their designated mentor, who will provide feedback and guide the project’s progression. All filmed projects must have a running time of 20 minutes or less, while text-based projects such as a series bible, screenplay, treatment or scriptment can extend up to 120 pages. To be eligible to apply for this elective subject, students must either be in the second year of their Bachelor of Film and Television program or have already completed 10 subjects as part of the Film and Television Double Major. Additionally, all students must have a cumulative credit average GPA (2.0) at the time of application.  The student applying should hold the primary creative role within the project, in most cases as the screenwriter, director, or both. Before applying, students are required to meet with a member of the Film, Screen, and Creative Media Academic Staff to discuss their proposed project. This step enhances the likelihood of project approval. Students must obtain written approval from this staff member to be eligible to apply. After this approval is obtained, students submit a written project proposal to the Head of Film, Screen & Creative Media for assessment during the semester preceding their intended Passion Project enrolment.
