Overview

The Queensland Government has committed to implementing the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) on all major state projects by 2023, and our award-winning built environment programs are designed to meet both the immediate and long-term strategies of government and industry.

Our BIM microcredentials allow you to choose flexible, stackable courses from our BuildingSMART accredited Master of BIM and IPD. We offer a number of specialised courses to suit your current capabilities and future goals, whether you are new to BIM, seeking to specialise, or are aiming to upskill and reach the next stage of your BIM career.

What are BIM microcredentials?

Delivered in person

Join your expert instructor and a small class of professionals in our modern, Brisbane city learning space on Boundary Street in Spring Hill.

3-6 day intensives

Delivered over three or six full days of learning, including all coursework and assessments. Each course is offered three times per year.

Industry recognised

Our courses are aligned with buildingSMART Australasia, open standards of buildingSMART International, Lean Construction Institutes of Australia, UK & USA principles, and internationally recognised principles of IPD.

Who are these courses for?

These microcredentials are aimed at professionals in architecture, project management, construction, valuation and property development, city planning or related fields, who have at least a basic understanding of Building Information Modelling concepts.

With the in-person workshops delivered at our new Brisbane location, you can enjoy flexible study delivery to fit into your work / life balance.

This course is not suitable for international students studying in Australia on a Student Visa or international students who require an Australian Student Visa. The Bond Experience Program is not registered on CRICOS, and we cannot issue a Certificate of Enrolment (CoE) for this course. All other international students, including those with alternative visa types that permit study, are welcome to apply.

  • Foundations of Intelligent Construction (OpenBIM)

    Start your Building Information Modelling (BIM) journey and learn about the core principles of BIM, Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery. The course introduces participants to the fundamental principles of Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery and provides a brief introduction to the BIM framework adopted by buildingSMART Australasia.

  • 4D-BIM (Schedule Optimisation)

    This microcredential addresses schedule preparation and management using BIM-related Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery techniques. It is taught in a highly interactive environment and is dedicated to aspects of interrogating BIM IT platforms in a manner that informs learners how to utilise available BIM information better.

  • BIM for Environment Sustainability Assessment

    In this course, you will learn essential environmental sustainability assessment tools used in the openBIM environment, and on completion of the course, will have a good understanding of energy performance analyses, carbon omission analyses, solar radiation and lighting analyses, natural ventilation system analyses and water acoustics analyses, as well as thermal comfort control and acoustics analyses.

  • BIM and Big Data

    This is an essential microcredential for those envisioning a career in local authority planning departments and similar contexts. As openBIM technologies are increasingly being used as the technical standard for designing and documenting major building and infrastructure projects, local authorities can be expected to more enthusiastically adopt GIS technologies to build digital twins of their cities.

  • BIM | Continuous Process Improvement (Quality and Safety Standards)

    The Continuous Process Improvement (Quality and Safety Standards) microcredential addresses the importance of using BIM/Lean/IPD to optimise design quality to ensure it meets client brief standards. You will learn about the management of quality during the construction phase by early identification and design rectification of potential coordination clashes and the like.

  • Process Evaluation and Change Management in BIM

    This microcredential addresses the importance of using BIM/Lean/IPD to optimise both the processes used to deliver complex projects and the management of the project changes that inevitably occur during major complex projects with multiple stakeholders. The principle of using 3D BIM models and Lean/IPD principles to identify coordination and other design problem areas collaboratively and to rectify them at a time when change has minimum impact on project budgets will be explored in-depth and at a practical as well as conceptual level.

  • BIM | Productivity and Off-site Fabrication (Minimising Waste)

    This microcredential addresses the importance of using modern BIM/Lean/IPD manufacturing and construction principles to minimise waste from all aspects of project productivity. The course involves a critical review of standard approaches to onsite progress and productivity compared with the potential advantages of using BIM principles and processes integrated with Lean/IPD based practices, in the integration with off-site fabrication where appropriate and viable.

Sponsorship Terms and Conditions

  1. Applications are open to those commencing in our January 2024 semester.
  2. Applications must be submitted prior to the stated closing date (see relevant program/course webpage for details).
  3. Learners must provide confirmation of their NAWIC or Women in BIM membership when lodging their application. The confirmation of membership document can be found on the NAWIC partnership webpage.
  4. Those wishing to complete more than one microcredential at the discounted rate, must complete at least one microcredential each semester without a break in semesters. 
  5. Those wishing to complete a postgraduate program must complete at least one subject each semester, once commenced. 
  6. Learners may retain the sponsorship until the end of the September 2025 semester, providing they continue to meet all terms and conditions.

Meet a BIM specialist

Bond’s postgraduate programs in BIM and IPD are designed to prepare graduates to serve the immediate and long-term needs of government and industry as they continue to develop infrastructure and construction projects for the benefit of the community. Graduates from these programs are well equipped to face challenges and capitalise on the plethora of opportunities arising in this sector.
