Master of Building Surveying graduates will, with sufficient relevant experience, be able to practise as accredited building surveyors and certifiers and will be able to seek work anywhere in Australia or around the world.

Building surveyor

Building surveyors are responsible for ensuring that buildings are constructed safely and are suitable to be occupied. To do this, building surveyors consider, consult, advise and enforce legislative requirements. Projected 8.6 per cent job growth in next 5 years, with a median salary of between $90k and $110k in Australia according to Seek (2021).

Quantity surveyor

Quantity surveyors work with construction professionals including architects, engineers, and builders to prepare cost estimates and plans, audit projects, and manage costs and contracts for construction projects. Projected 13.8 per cent job growth in the next 5 years, with a median salary of between $100k and $140k in Australia according to Seek (2021).

Quality controller

Monitor and report on risk and support leaders to ensure regulatory obligations are met. Supports the implementation and on-going monitoring of the quality assurance and compliance to ensure risks are mitigated. Quality controller roles in Australia were typically advertised between $90k and $140k according to Seek (2021).

Building inspector

Building inspectors carry out inspections of commercial and residential buildings to ensure structures comply with laws and regulations. Inspections may be carried out prior, during or after building work has been completed, and help ensure that buildings are safe, structurally sound and accessible. Professional accreditation

The Master of Building Surveying is recognised internationally by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and nationally by the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS).    The program satisfies the educational requirements for accreditation at the level of Building Certifier Levels 1, 2 and 3 in Queensland.    Upon gaining accreditation with the AIBS or RICS, graduates may be eligible for a licence as a building certifier with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC). When licensed, graduates may practise in Queensland as building certifiers for local government or as private certifiers.
