Mooting application procedure

Due to Bond’s extensive involvement in national and international competitions there are usually between 30-35 positions available each year in our various mooting teams. The application process for these places is competitive. While there may be some variation to the specific processes from time to time, generally, the process for applications is as follows: 

Call for applications

The Faculty calls for expressions of interest towards the end of the first semester or the beginning of the second semester of each year for National moots. Places are advertised via emails sent to all students and posted on the iLearn Mooting Community site.  

Initial application

Interested students are asked to submit:

  1. A letter expressing your interest, outlining why you would be a suitable candidate;
  2. A copy of your academic transcript; and
  3. A brief CV.

You will also be asked to nominate which team or moot you are interested in as most of the team members are chosen from one selection pool.

First round shortlist

Depending on the number of applicants, a shortlist will be chosen by the selectors. If you are a first semester student with no mooting experience, it is difficult to get past this first round cut but don’t let that stop you from applying in the future. If you are keen enough, you will usually get the opportunity to take part in at least one competition during your time at Bond.

Advocacy Interview

Shortlisted applicants will be asked to attend an interview with the selection panel.  Applicants also will be asked to prepare a short moot submission or other oral skills tasks for presentation to and assessment by the selection panel. In some instances, follow up interviews and\or assessments may be required.  

Final team selections will be made on the basis of the complete application, including the interview and oral presentation.
